Sustainable Business of E-Commerce in the Smart Economy: A Systematic Review of Roles and Challenges for Future Research

The integration of e-commerce within the smart economy framework is essential for fostering sustainable economic growth and inclusivity. This study aims to explore the roles, challenges, and future research perspectives of e-commerce sustainability in the smart economy, using a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology. This SLR uses qualitative analysis. Data sourced from Scopus was analyzed to ensure a comprehensive collection of peer-reviewed articles. The findings reveal that e-commerce significantly enhances sustainable supply chain decisions, facilitates cross-border trade, and promotes inclusivity by bridging the digital divide. However, challenges such as implementing sustainable practices and ensuring cybersecurity resilience are crucial for effective integration. The study contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a deeper understanding of the interplay between e-commerce and sustainability. It highlights the necessity for businesses to adopt advanced technologies and sustainable practices to remain competitive. Policymakers are urged to establish supportive frameworks that enhance cybersecurity and ensure equitable access to digital markets. This research offers comprehensive insights into the current state and future directions of e-commerce within the smart economy, benefiting academics, practitioners, and policymakers.
