Employing Google Gemini AI technology in the educational process: A experimental study on students in the Department of Libraries, Documentation, and Information, Faculty of Arts, Cairo University
The study aims to identify the types of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and how to integrate them into the educational process. It focuses on the use of Google Gemini technology in teaching the Library and Information Services and Marketing course, compared to traditional research methods, for third-year students in the Department of Libraries, Documentation, and Information at Cairo University during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The study also evaluates its effectiveness, demonstrates the impact of its use on the educational process, and monitors potential obstacles and challenges to its use. It also presents a proposed strategy for integrating traditional search tools with Google Gemini technology into the course, relying on both experimental and comparative approaches. The study found that all students use traditional tools to search for reliable academic sources, while only 46.15% use Google Gemini for this purpose. The study recommends the importance of integrating these technologies into library and information science curricula to enhance students' technical skills. It also highlights the need to update the content of the Library and Information Services and Marketing course to include the latest generative AI technologies and their role in providing and marketing library services. It also recommends providing an interactive learning environment for students, while assigning them research tasks that require the use of both methods to achieve integrated results.
