An Architecture for AI Game Masters in Tabletop RPGs

This chapter details the AI architecture of a system designed to serve as a game master in solo tabletop roleplaying game (RPG) sessions. The system was developed out of academic curiosity to determine how well modern AI practices like retrieval augmented generation and AI orchestration could be applied to constrain and guide the behaviour of a simulated “dungeon master”, “game master”, or “referee” as various RPG systems refer to the individual moderating the play session.
