ドイツ語教育における地域文化情報取得へのChatGPT 活用について

The aim of this study is to explore the usefulness of ChatGPT for acquiring knowledge about the target language culture and to improve learners’ awareness regarding the changing literacy requirements posed by using AI. This case study was carried out in a German culture class with two students (CEFR A2) at Hiroshima University. In order to expand their knowledge of certain aspects of German society, the students were asked to retrieve information by using ChatGPT (interaction task) and to write a report on their findings (writing task). The data collected in this study consist of the transcripts of oral or written interactions between the students and ChatGPT, evaluation of their written reports, and the results of a written survey conducted with the participants to evaluate the methods used in this project. The results of the investigation indicate that participants greatly appreciated experiencing the use of AI as part of their L2 learning. Analysis of the transcripts and the written reports shows that the students obtained valuable and interesting information on German society and culture. Additionally, they had the opportunity to practice their oral and written communication skills. However, the study also revealed the technology’s susceptibility to misunderstandings. The students often had to reformulate their oral or written input. The results of the writing task also showed that they had difficulties paraphrasing or summarizing the output generated by ChatGPT. These difficulties highlight the importance of providing students with adequate linguistic and technical support if they are expected to use AI to perform oral and written tasks as part of their L2 learning.
