Med Tech and Big Data

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) will be discussed in two important, and related, fields in this chapter: medical technology and Big data. Medical technology (med tech) refers to tech-like wearable monitors or biosensors, and Big data is copious amounts of data that AI can parse through to help feed bioinformatic information relevant to health outcomes. Together these areas can work synergistically to collect, analyze, and characterize real-time maternal health data. Generally, AI advancements in maternal and fetal monitoring have improved diagnostic accuracy and expedited risk characterization. However, further evaluation across a variety of settings and using large-scale data are warranted to ensure the generalizability and utility of AI.
