THE INFLUENCE OF AI-DRIVEN PERFORMANCE MONITORING ON EMPLOYEE AUTONOMY AN PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING

Companies are using AI-powered performance monitoring systems more and more as a way to improve efficiency, reach goals, and evaluate performance. Specifically, the implementation of such systems necessitates the documentation of all records, oversight of screen and communication activities, and the aggregation of statistics regarding workflow to assess employee performance. Even though supporters of performance monitoring say that it can help reduce subjective impact and make things more clear, there is more and more proof that these kinds of technologies change how employees feel about their freedom and mental health. This study examines the impact of AI-based performance monitoring on employees’ sense of autonomy and psychological well-being, encompassing stress levels, burnout, and job satisfaction. According to self-determination and conservation-of-resources theories, continuous performance monitoring seems to be a double-edged sword. It can improve positive feedback and make workers more aware of their role in organisational processes, but it can also make them afraid of being watched and take away their intrinsic motivation.
