THE IMPACT OF AI-POWERED LANGUAGE LEARNING TOOLS ON ENGLISH PEDAGOGY

We are living through a quiet revolution in how English is taught and learned. Over the past several years, tools built on artificial intelligence have moved from being a novelty at the edges of language education to becoming part of everyday classroom and self-study practice. Yet the deeper question — what all of this actually means for the way English is taught, and for the people doing the teaching and learning — deserves more careful attention than it often receives. This article takes a close look at how AI-powered language learning tools are genuinely reshaping English pedagogy, moving beyond surface-level descriptions of what these tools do to ask what they change, what they cannot change, and what good teaching looks like when technology becomes part of the picture. The study draws on a range of recent classroom-based research to argue that AI tools carry real pedagogical value, particularly in extending individualized practice and building learner confidence, but that their transformative potential depends entirely on the quality of human teaching that surrounds them.
