THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNICAL ENGLISH SKILLS AMONG ENGINEERING STUDENTS
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into educational environments has significantly transformed language learning practices in higher education. Engineering students, who are expected to master specialized technical terminology and communicate effectively in global professional contexts, increasingly rely on AI-powered tools to enhance their English language proficiency. Applications such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL Translator, and GitHub Copilot provide personalized learning support, automated feedback, and real-time language assistance, thereby facilitating the acquisition of technical English skills. This conceptual study examines the role of AI technologies in improving technical vocabulary, academic writing, reading comprehension, and professional communication among engineering students. Drawing on recent literature in AI-assisted language learning (AILL), the study explores both the opportunities and challenges associated with AI integration in engineering education. The analysis indicates that AI tools can significantly enhance learner autonomy, motivation, and language performance when used appropriately. However, concerns related to overreliance on technology, academic integrity, and the accuracy of AI-generated content remain important considerations. The study proposes a conceptual framework for integrating AI tools into technical English instruction and offers recommendations for educators and institutions seeking to maximize the educational benefits of emerging technologies.
