AI-Based Social Assistive Robots in Dementia Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This registration documents a completed systematic review and meta-analysis examining the use of AI-based Social Assistive Robots (SARs) in dementia care. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, usability, and psychosocial outcomes associated with SAR interventions among individuals living with dementia. We systematically searched multiple databases for peer-reviewed articles published between 2012 and 2022, following PRISMA guidelines. Outcomes included patient engagement, emotional well-being, agitation reduction, and caregiver satisfaction. A meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize effect sizes where possible. This registration serves to enhance transparency and reproducibility, in accordance with the Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines adopted by The Gerontologist.
