This chapter examines the ethical integration of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and automation, into contemporary safety practices. As technological innovation accelerates, its prevailing ethos of speed, optimization, and disruption increasingly intersects with, and at times conflicts with, the foundational principles of safety, which prioritize the prevention of harm and the protection of human well-being. The chapter explores this tension and outlines how advanced technologies both challenge and enhance traditional safety paradigms. It evaluates the moral implications of shifting from reactive, human-centered safety models to proactive, data‑driven systems enabled by AI and automation. Through a philosophical and practical analysis, the chapter argues that ethical frameworks must evolve alongside technological capabilities, ensuring that innovation serves as a guide rail, rather than a threat, to safe and responsible practice. By integrating ethical foresight, transparent governance, and human-centered values, organizations can align technological advancement with improved safety outcomes and resilient system design.
