Artificial intelligence (AI) technology offers great potential for promoting gender equality. It in particular has the power to change gender roles at home as well as in other areas like hiring people and health care. Of course, if AI is wrongly designed, it can actually become a very effective tool to reinforce and amplify deep-rooted prejudices and biases, so we must be very careful. For example, a hiring process that is well-checked algorithmically could Yes make the job of selecting employees less biased but, if there are underlying biases in the data used, it is very likely that certain groups such as women in leadership roles would be discriminated against. So, to ensure that AI becomes truly a fair tool, one cannot rely on the current situation to do it for one. Make sure to continuously monitor the algorithms as well as to include more women in the technological development process.
