VANET benefits in offering a Delay tolerant network, while network connectivity is intermittent during the process of continuous movement of vehicles. Design of an effectual routing algorithm based on heuristic approach facilitates in propagating multiply copies of packets for faster delivery thereby reducing the network overhead. In this work, an effectual Route Map Ant colony optimization (RMAP-ACO) is utilized for effectual transmission. The network scenario is determined by vehicles that follows certain routes and schedules. This characteristic of vehicles generates an opportunity for optimizer to evaluate the performance. The significant contribution of the work is to reduce the overhead without degrading delivery probability performance.
