Gas leakage is a significant issue in industrial and residential sectors. It has the potential to cause huge damages in case of a leakage occurring in the space as it will react with oxygen when a spark occurs and it causes an immediate explosion. One of the methods to prevent such accidents is installing a gas leakage detection system. In this paper, we summarize and compare recent approaches of gas detection in smart houses. There are several methods to detect the gas leakage through utilizing the methods of Internet of things (IoT), Bluetooth, and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). We discuss the technical challenges in this field and the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
