Implicit Bias or Explicit Bias: An Analysis Based on Natural Language Processing

Text is a common form of language which is a source to mine people’s bias. And bias always exists on some special concepts. However, psychology studies show that, on several specific concepts, the explicit bias is sometimes different from the implicit bias. Current method does not distinguish explicit and implicit bias although they do have certain imparities. Inspired by the two special tests from implicit and explicit bias, we developed an automatic language-based technique to reproduce the psychological tests. We build connection between sentences which is the combination of certain words and each psychological measurement and then engender explicit bias and implicit bias by understanding the emotional issue of statements.

Abstract

Text is a common form of language which is a source to mine people’s bias. And bias always exists on some special concepts. However, psychology studies show that, on several specific concepts, the explicit bias is sometimes different from the implicit bias. Current method does not distinguish explicit and implicit bias although they do have certain imparities. Inspired by the two special tests from implicit and explicit bias, we developed an automatic language-based technique to reproduce the psychological tests. We build connection between sentences which is the combination of certain words and each psychological measurement and then engender explicit bias and implicit bias by understanding the emotional issue of statements.
