AI-Assisted Legal Education for Student Grouping Using Large Language Models

Recently, Large language models (LLMs) have achieved a great milestone and showcased the remarkable capability to revolutionize numerous domains, such as education, law, and beyond. In this paper, we investigate the potential of LLMs as assistive tools for legal education. We first introduce a legal-knowledge conversational system, LawEducator, which functions as an AI assistant in the realm of law education. This system allows students to pose legal queries and receive comprehensive responses. It is built on a pre-trained LLM and further enhanced by domain-specific fine-tuning and instructional alignment. An additional retriever is integrated to retrieve related legal knowledge from books. Next, we explore the potential of LawEducator for educational applications, e.g., student grouping, which is a crucial teaching method in pedagogy. Analysis is conducted to show the advances and limitations of LLMs for legal education.
