One embodiment includes generating a surface based on the periodic data, the contour of the surface corresponding to the amplitudes of the plurality of data points. At least one area of the surface can be visually differentiated from another area of the surface. A rendering mode, viewing orientation, and/or an area of interest associated with the surface can be prescribed and updated in real-time or quasi real-time.
