Integrating AI

This chapter critically examines the opportunities, challenges, and ethical dilemmas posed by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into journalism, with a focus on implications for journalism education. As generative AI reshapes news production, distribution, and newsroom roles, journalism educators face growing pressure to adapt curricula, develop AI literacy, and prepare students for an evolving professional landscape. Drawing on global research, industry reports, and case studies, including the JournalismAI Academy at LSE, this chapter explores how educators can teach AI ethically, critically, and collaboratively. It outlines key pedagogical strategies, emerging newsroom roles, and the tension between automation and journalistic integrity. The chapter argues that journalism education must evolve to equip students with both practical AI skills and critical thinking tools to uphold the core values of the profession. Ultimately, it calls for a balanced, inclusive, and collaborative approach to AI in journalism training.
