Mobile Based SMS Scheduler for Educators using Preemptive Priority Based Scheduling

Abstract

Nowadays in Sabah and Sarawak (East of Malaysia Regions), the assignment of tasks or reports of some events that include meetings among the teachers in schools were communicated through writing letters, memos or by face to face. Although there are some major communications mediums in the education business such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook, the information can be disseminated really quickly; it connects people and could also build a stronger relationship. However, it can be used only if they are online or the Internet connection is available in order to open these applications. As in Sabah and Sarawak, the dissemination of information between the teachers still not promising and could lead to a miscommunication. This is a problem for teachers who lived in the rural areas to use the social medias to interact and to communicate due to the inconsistent Internet connection speed. The text messaging communication medium that uses the Short Messaging Services (SMS) is a preferable and also a good alternative to communicate efficiently among the teachers. In this application, a list of five messages can queue before being submitted. The SMS is scheduled based on the constraints that have been identified. The application will give a reminder of the scheduled messages before sending it according to the level of the messages’ urgency and the reminder priority. The teachers and staffs in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak may use the application since it is the most suggested solution to their problems when communicating with low or none Internet speed available.
