A service model of resources is created and the resources are mapped to a plurality of templates. The service model represents real-time characteristics of resources for an enterprise. Rule-based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are then configured on the templates and thereby applied to the depicted resources, and the overall health of the system that utilizes the depicted resources depicted is determined.
