New York A 6767 (AI Companion Models)

Adds Article 47 to New York's general business law, governing AI companions. Defines key terms including "AI companion," "operator," and "emotional recognition algorithms." Prohibits operators from providing AI companions without protocols addressing user-expressed suicidal ideation, self-harm, physical harm to others, and financial harm, requiring notifications to crisis services. Requires operators to notify users at the beginning and every three hours during AI companion interactions that the program is not human and cannot feel emotions. Allows individuals harmed by non-compliance to seek damages and equitable relief through legal action. Ensures that if any part of the act is invalidated by a court, the remainder retains its validity. Sets the act to take effect 180 days after becoming law.
