Convergence of AI, Human Resources, and Sustainable Growth

Abstract Purpose This chapter explores the strategic convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and human resource management (HRM) as a catalyst for sustainable organizational development. It emphasizes how AI-enabled human resources (HR) practices can be effectively aligned with sustainability performance indicators to promote balanced growth across social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Despite extensive research on AI applications in HR and sustainability-driven HR initiatives, limited attention has been given to their combined influence on long-term organizational outcomes. Addressing this research gap, this chapter investigates the synergistic relationship between AI adoption in HRM and sustainability integration, contributing to the broader narrative of responsible digital transformation. Methodology A systematic review methodology is employed, synthesizing insights from academic studies, industry publications, and practical case analyses. The review identifies emerging models and frameworks that connect AI-powered HR processes such as recruitment, talent management, and employee engagement with sustainable business objectives. Comparative evaluation further enables the development of a conceptual framework linking AI-based HR innovation to sustainability outcomes. Findings Findings reveal that AI integration enhances HR efficiency while simultaneously advancing inclusivity, resource optimization, and eco-conscious decision-making. When embedded within sustainability-oriented strategies, AI-driven HR systems contribute significantly to achieving triple-bottom-line goals. Implications The study offers actionable implications for HR professionals and organizational leaders by providing a roadmap for implementing ethical and sustainable AI practices. The proposed framework supports the evolution toward Industry 5.0 by fostering responsible digital transformation, organizational resilience, and long-term value creation through sustainable human–technology collaboration.
